Hold the Momma

Part of taking care of our babies is taking care of ourselves.

Birth & the postpartum period is the most sacred time for women and their families. In our culture it is not recognized that way and because of this lack of caring, our mommas are suffering with mood disorders, psychosis, and bodies that hurt. It does not and should not be this way. Hold the momma is a special offering from Kalei and momma herself. The purpose is to provide mommas with the proper emotional support and healing through postpartum care and bodywork. When we go into the postpartum period with a plan and support for our bodies, the unknowns of the postpartum period are more manageable. Bodywork helps regulate our nervous system, which allows for an over all calmness and better milk production. Kalei's goal is to nourish the momma so she can nourish her baby and family.

Kalei spent 8 years as a homebirth Midwife's assistant and Certified Lactation Consultant. She was at every prenatal, every birth, and every postpartum visit. Being such an involved and dedicated Assistant to the Midwife allowed Kalei to witness many different mommas on their journey into motherhood.

In midwifery care, the midwife and her assistant go back on day 1, day 3, day 7, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, & 6 weeks, sometimes 8 weeks.  Midwifery care is very much about supporting mommas and babies after the birth, just as much as it is during the birth  and the prenatal period. Most mommas who have a hospital birth have a much different postpartum experience and need this support even more.

Kalei was lead to midwifery work because of her experience with early miscarriages in her 20s. "I never want a woman to carry what I carried in my body for so long after my losses" She gave birth to her daughter Charlene at home in July of 2021. "It was a fast birth and left my body in shock, pain, and a 3rd degree tear. I was on bed rest for 2 weeks. It took the entire 3 months of my maternity leave to be able to walk a 2 mile walk. I couldn't stand alone, shower alone, or even sit up to nurse my baby for the first 2 weeks. There was just so much trauma to my tailbone and pelvic floor. Luckily I had the care of a midwife, my mom, and my husband. Being a bodyworker, I knew I needed some deep healing, so I reached out to all my bodyworkers and the healing begin. It wasn't until my daughter was 14 months old that my body felt somewhat normal again. I use pelvic floor PT, CFT, Pilates Sessions, Yoga, massage, and Energy work as part of self care, monthly. Yep, you read that right- monthly. I would not feel as good as I do now without it."

The goal of Hold the Momma is to educate women, to take care of them, and help them realize they matter and their healing should to. Having a baby is a big deal, its ok to take the space to have your baby and a proper postpartum healing time.

Having a miscarriage is a big deal and a women should have the space to have it, to grieve, and decide when she is ready to go back to work or tell people.  This is how Hold the Momma was born.

"I look forward to helping as many mommas as I can, this work brings me joy and is so needed for our babies to thrive as well."  You matter momma & I am here to remind you of that.
